A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor Representative Dan
Stevenson on his retirement from the Indiana House of
Representatives.
Whereas, Representative Dan Stevenson has represented
his constituents, the citizens of House District 11, since 1994;
Whereas, Representative Stevenson has lived in northwest
Indiana his entire life, graduating from Highland High School
in 1977 before going on to undergraduate study at Calumet
College;
Whereas, Representatives Stevenson has spent his
professional career as a steelworker at Inland Steel, and has
been active in his support for working men and women as a
member of the United Steel Workers Local 1010, which he has
served as a grievance committee representative, and as an editor
of the union's newspaper;
Whereas, Outside the Statehouse, Representative Stevenson
is a loving husband to his wife of twenty-six years, Dawn, and
a caring father and grandfather to their three children and four
grandchildren, and has committed himself to his neighbors and
his community as a former member of the Board of the Lake
Area United Way, a former President of the Indiana Young
Democrats, a former Vice-President of the United Steelworkers
Press Association, and a former member of the Hammond
Jaycees; and,
Whereas, Representative Stevenson's hard work and
dedication has received honor and recognition on a number of
occasions, including the Service to Labor Award from the
Northwest Federation of Labor in 1995, the Legislative
Achievement Award from Indiana University-Northwest in
1995, and the Legislator of the Year Award from the Indiana
Association of Police Chiefs in 1996: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives thanks
Representative Dan Stevenson for his dedicated and honorable service
to his constituency and to the state of Indiana, and wishes him
happiness and contentment in his retirement.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Representative
Dan Stevenson and his family.
