A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Stacy
McCormack on being named 2011 Indiana Teacher of the Year.
Whereas, After ten years of teaching science and physics,
Stacy McCormack has been named 2011 Indiana Teacher of
the Year;
Whereas, Before beginning her teaching career,
McCormack earned a bachelor of science degree in
secondary education from Indiana University, and a master
of arts degree in physics education from Ball State
University;
Whereas, McCormack's first teaching position was at
Elkhart Central High School, after which she moved on to
teach at her alma mater, Penn High School, in 2006;
Whereas, McCormack's students at Penn High School
say she teaches physics using items like toy cars and bouncy
balls. They describe her as funny, enthusiastic, and caring,
resulting in a classroom environment that feels like a family;
Whereas, Outside of the classroom, McCormack is a member of the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers; author of the book, Teacher Friendly Physics; 2006 United States representative at the High School Teacher's Conference at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear
Research) in Switzerland; and spends her summers as an
adjunct distance learning science instructor for Ivy Tech
Community College;
Whereas, This year, McCormack received the Armstrong
Teacher Educator Award from Indiana University, and was
named Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation Teacher
of the Year;
Whereas, After traveling to Indianapolis, and receiving
visits from two former state Teachers of the Year,
McCormack was selected out of an original 50 hopefuls;
Whereas, During an assembly held at Penn High School,
McCormack was presented the title of 2011 Indiana Teacher
of the Year by Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony
Bennett; and
Whereas, Stacy McCormack has proven herself to be an
outstanding teacher of students, and her 2011 Indiana
Teacher of the Year award is well deserved: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly congratulates Stacy
McCormack on being named the 2011 Indiana Teacher of the Year.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Stacy McCormack; Steve Hope,
Principal of Penn High School; and Dr. Jerry Thacker, Superintendent
of Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
