SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Sheriff Dan McClain on his decorated service in the United States Navy.

     Whereas, Dan McClain served 13 years as a Navy SEAL from 1982-1996. The Navy deployed him multiple times to Central America as part of SEAL Team Four. Certified as a Jungle Warfare expert, McClain used his expertise to train the Honduran military in small unit tactics;

    Whereas, In the late 1980s, as fear and terror eclipsed the nation of Panama, McClain and SEAL Team Six took part in numerous combat missions in Operation Just Cause to protect innocent civilians and neutralize enemy targets. As climbing department head for his assault team, McClain's tactical planning and organization were crucial to the team's success. He also brought his training experience to the field by briefing military and civilian officials on SEAL tactics;

    Whereas, McClain exemplified cooperation by participating in a foreign military exchange program with the Special Boat Service (SBS), the special forces unit of the British Royal Navy;

    Whereas, McClain later became an instructor at the Naval Special Warfare Center. He spent time updating the course curriculum for naval special forces and was certified as Master Training Specialist;

    Whereas, In 1996, McClain left the Navy and moved his wife, Wendy, and two daughters, Amber and Kaley, back to Scottsburg where he was raised. McClain started a cable company called Trident Cable, Inc. where he worked for four years using fiber optic technology to upgrade and deliver cable to the Kentuckiana region;

    Whereas, In 2000, McClain joined Fewell Monument Co. as a production manager for the facility. He worked there for four years before a strong call to use his talents and experience led him back into the defense industry;

    Whereas, September 11, 2001 impacted McClain just as it did all Americans. His service in the Navy SEALs and his instructional skills were called on again to train the next generation of special forces in their efforts to defeat terrorists all over the globe;

    Whereas, During his five years as a defense contractor, McClain provided elite training instruction to the United States Military. He worked at the Center for Anti-Terrorism and Naval Security Forces in Jacksonville, Florida where he taught combat techniques, shooting, and close-quarters battle tactics. He also spent time at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq doing vulnerability assessments and assisting the State Department with personnel protection;

    Whereas, After over 20 years of serving his country, McClain turned back to serve his community. In November 2010 he was elected as the new sheriff of Scott County; and

    Whereas, Dan McClain's career of serving others, from

instructing and training elite warfare tactics, to serving his community, are an honor and inspiration to the Navy, United States of America, and the state of Indiana: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate honors Sheriff Dan McClain for his decorated military service.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Sheriff Dan McClain.
