A bill to amend 1972 PA 230, entitled
"Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act,"
(MCL 125.1501 to 125.1531) by adding section 4g.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 4g. (1) A building primarily used for agricultural
tourism, for a period of time not to exceed 30 days in any calendar
year, is exempt from any building code provisions requiring fire
sprinkler systems if the owner of the building receives written
approval from the state fire marshal or the fire chief of an
organized fire department within the local unit of government
within which the building is located.
(2) As used in this section, "agricultural tourism" means the
practice of visiting an agribusiness, horticultural, or
agricultural operation, including, but not limited to, a farm,
orchard, or winery or a companion animal or livestock show, for the
purpose of recreation, education, or active involvement in the
operation, other than as a contractor or employee of the operation.
