A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1246a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1246a. (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection
(2), the board of a school district or intermediate school district
shall not employ a superintendent of the school district or
intermediate school district at a salary that exceeds the salary of
the state superintendent of public instruction.
(2) If an employment contract that provides a salary for the
superintendent of a school district or intermediate school district
is in effect as of the effective date of this section, and if that
salary is not in compliance with subsection (1), then subsection
(1) does not apply to that school district or intermediate school
district until after the expiration of that employment contract.
(3) The state board shall post the salary of the state
superintendent of public instruction on its website and shall
promptly update that posting if that salary changes.
