     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding sections 502b, 523b, 553b, and

 

1311n.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 502b. (1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this

 

part, the combined total number of public school academies under

 

this part, urban high school academies under part 6c, schools of

 

excellence under part 6e, and strict discipline academies under

 

sections 1311b to 1311n that are in operation in this state shall

 

not exceed the lesser of the following:

 

     (a) The combined total number of those schools in operation

 

during the school year in which this section takes effect.

 

     (b) If the combined total number of those schools in operation

 


during a subsequent school year is less than the number under

 

subdivision (a), that lesser number.

 

     (c) Two hundred.

 

     (2) The department shall not issue a district code for a new

 

public school academy, urban high school academy, school of

 

excellence, or strict discipline academy if the operation of that

 

public school academy, urban high school academy, school of

 

excellence, or strict discipline academy would be contrary to

 

subsection (1).

 

     Sec. 523b. (1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this

 

part, the combined total number of public school academies under

 

part 6a, urban high school academies under this part, schools of

 

excellence under part 6e, and strict discipline academies under

 

sections 1311b to 1311n that are in operation in this state shall

 

not exceed the lesser of the following:

 

     (a) The combined total number of those schools in operation

 

during the school year in which this section takes effect.

 

     (b) If the combined total number of those schools in operation

 

during a subsequent school year is less than the number under

 

subdivision (a), that lesser number.

 

     (c) Two hundred.
