House Resolution No. 360.
A resolution of tribute offered as a memorial for Peter Pettalia, member of the House of Representatives.
Whereas, The members of this legislative body were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Representative Peter Pettalia. He had a long and honorable career in public service and was held in high esteem by his colleagues. Michigan is better because he served; and
Whereas, Peter Pettalia served the public in many capacities before being elected three times to the House. He was an East Grand Lake volunteer firefighter for 15 years and a Presque Isle Township supervisor for 16 years. He was a founding member of the Presque Isle County Economic Development Commission and vice-chairman of the Community Development Commission. His energetic dedication to his community was evident in everything he did; and
Whereas, During his three terms in the House, Representative Pettalia served as House Republican Majority Caucus Chair as well as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee. His friendly leadership skills and ability to bring people together were appreciated on both sides of the aisle. He also sat on the House Financial Services, Energy Policy, Local Government, Judiciary, and Natural Resources committees. He sponsored nineteen public acts on issues such as promoting vocational education, supporting outdoor sportsmen and women, upholding family property rights, and protecting while promoting our natural resources. As an effective legislator, champion for northern Michigan, successful business owner, loving family man, and avid sportsman, Representative Pettalia earned the respect and admiration of his peers and constituents; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our highest tribute to honor the memory of Peter Pettalia, a member of this legislative body from 2011 to 2016. Upon his passing, we offer our condolences to his family and friends. May they be comforted knowing that we all share in their grief and that the legacy of Peter Pettalia's contributions to this state will long be remembered; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Pettalia family as evidence of our lasting esteem for his memory.
