1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to higher education; modifying definition of student for purposes of
1.3the statement of immunization;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section
1.4135A.14, subdivision 1.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 135A.14, subdivision 1, is amended to
1.7read:
1.8    Subdivision 1. Definitions. As used in this section, the following terms have the
1.9meanings given them.
1.10(a) "Administrator" means the administrator of the institution or other person with
1.11general control and supervision of the institution.
1.12(b) "Public or private postsecondary educational institution" or "institution" means
1.13any of the following institutions having an enrollment of more than 100 persons during
1.14any quarter, term, or semester during the preceding year: (1) the University of Minnesota;
1.15(2) the state universities; (3) the state community colleges; (4) public technical colleges;
1.16(5) private four-year, professional and graduate institutions; (6) private two-year colleges;
1.17and (7) schools subject to either chapter 141, sections 136A.61 to 136A.71, or schools
1.18exempt under section 136A.657, and which offer educational programs within the state
1.19for an academic year greater than six consecutive months. An institution's report to the
1.20Minnesota Office of Higher Education or the Minnesota Department of Education may be
1.21considered when determining enrollment.
1.22(c) "Student" means a person born after 1956 who did not graduate from a Minnesota
1.23high school in 1997 or later, and who is (1) registering for more than one class during
1.24a full academic term, such as a quarter or a semester or (2) housed on campus and is
2.1registering for one or more classes. Student does not include persons enrolled in extension
2.2classes only or, correspondence classes only, online classes, hybrid classes that blend
2.3online classes with face-to-face classes, or evening adult accelerated programs.
