1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing 2021 Clean Energy Week in the State of Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, across Minnesota and the United States, clean and readily abundant forms of energy
1.4are powering more homes and businesses than ever before; and
1.5WHEREAS, clean and affordable energy, including local generation from renewable sources such
1.6as wind, solar, and hydro; carbon-free sources such as nuclear, carbon capture natural gas, and carbon capture
1.7coal; and innovative sources such as energy efficiency and energy storage are part of Minnesota's present
1.8and future; and
1.9WHEREAS, clean energy is an important source of local jobs, which cannot be outsourced due to
1.10the on-site nature of construction, installation, and maintenance; and
1.11WHEREAS, Minnesota's clean energy sector grew by ten percent in the second half of 2020,
1.12rebounding twice as fast as Minnesota's overall job growth, and will continue to provide a critical boost to
1.13Minnesota's needed economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic; and
1.14WHEREAS, clean energy developments have provided a boon to local taxpayers, as the wind
1.15production tax alone has provided more than $133,000,000 in revenue to county governments; these revenues
1.16provide funding for public safety, road and bridge projects, and tax burden relief for local property taxpayers;
1.17and
1.18WHEREAS, Minnesota farmers, landowners, and businesses benefit from diversified and passive
1.19revenues to host renewable development projects, receiving over $23,000,000 in wind host lease payments
1.20in 2020 alone; and
1.21WHEREAS, raw materials from Minnesota's mines provide critical resources needed to construct
1.22renewable energy generation across the United States and Minnesota workers benefit from this position of
1.23national leadership; and
1.24WHEREAS, clean and affordable energy upholds Minnesota's heritage of a competitive and active
1.25economy while preserving our rich natural resources and heritage for future generations; and
1.26WHEREAS, Clean Energy Week brings together preeminent business leaders, advocates,
1.27policymakers, and trade associations dedicated to a clean energy future; and
1.28WHEREAS, National Clean Energy Week is an annual awareness week to recognize the value of
1.29clean energy to America, including well-paying jobs across the country, economic growth, energy
1.30independence, consumer choice, lower energy prices, and a cleaner environment; and
1.31NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.32commemorates the week of September 20 to 24, 2021, as Clean Energy Week.
1.33BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an enrolled
1.34copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the Senate
1.35Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Minnesota Conservative Energy Forum.
