A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOGUE CHITTO LADY BOBCATS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on Thursday, March 10, 2016, the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats completed an exceptional season, culminating with a win over the Shaw Lady Hawks, outscoring the Lady Hawks 57-31 to take home the coveted MHSAA Class 1A State Championship Trophy and earn them a permanent place in the annals of their school's history; and
WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 State Championship is the Lady Bobcats sixth state championship and its first since 1995; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Bobcats entered the championship game having won their last 20 consecutive games over the course of the season in which they won 31 games and lost only 3; and
WHEREAS, over the course of their dominant season, the Lady Bobcats eviscerated opponents on a nightly basis, winning by an average margin of 32.2 points and leaving no doubt that they meant business every time they took the floor; and
WHEREAS, dominant on offense and defense throughout the championship game, the Lady Bobcats scored first and never looked back, and they never trailed after scoring on the opening possession; and
WHEREAS, leading the Lady Bobcats to their triumphant victory is Head Coach Christi Terrell, who rallied her team after several early season losses to storm back and prove the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats have no equal; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats Basketball Team and Head Coach Christi Terrell for completing an outstanding 31-win season and capturing the Mississippi High School Athletics Association Class 1A State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coach for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Christi Terrell, Bogue Chitto High School Athletic Director Gareth Sartin and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
