A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. CHRISTY KNAPP UPON HER ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (MEDC) TO SERVE A ONE-YEAR TERM OF OFFICE FROM OCTOBER 2010 TO SEPTEMBER 2011.
WHEREAS, Ms. Christy Knapp diligently serves as Executive Vice President for Economic and Community Development with the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation in Oxford, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Knapp, who has faithfully served the Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) as a member of its board of directors since 2004, was duly elected by the council's membership to serve as its president for the 2010-2011 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, the first woman since 1995 to serve as President of the MEDC, Ms. Knapp was honored as the 2003 winner of the Ray and Jimmy Heidel Economic Development Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Knapp was recognized as one of the Top 50 Leading Business Women in 2006 by the Mississippi Business Journal and has consistently been successful in marketing Oxford, Mississippi, as one of the top retirement destinations in the country, casting Oxford-Lafayette County and the State of Mississippi in a most positive light; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Knapp has made marked contributions to the economic and community development of Oxford, Mississippi, and has garnered worldwide attention for its quality of life; and
WHEREAS, her determination to capably lead the state's economic and community developers and Chamber of Commerce professionals has earned for her and her community the respect and admiration of the Legislature and of the citizens of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Ms. Knapp for her outstanding leadership and commitment to her profession, community and state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Christy Knapp, Executive Vice President of Economic and Community Development for the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation, for her election to the Office of President of the Mississippi Economic Development Council and express heartiest wishes for success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Knapp and to the members of the Capitol Press Corp.
