A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF ANDREW WEDDINGTON AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Andrew Weddington, a longstanding resident of Leflore County, Mississippi, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, to enter into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father, causing great sorrow and loss to his family, friends and countless former students; and

     WHEREAS, born in Lorman, Mississippi, Mr. Weddington graduated from Alcorn Laboratory High School, followed by graduating from Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Alcorn State University), where he received a Special Philanthropic Recognition Award as well as honors for playing varsity football; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Weddington was a vocational teacher from 1955 to 1989 for R.B. Schlater High School in Morgan City, Mississippi, and then for Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood; and

     WHEREAS, during his career as a dedicated educator, Mr. Weddington guided hundreds of Leflore County students in learning the craft of carpentry, a 34-year legacy honored with a certificate of appreciation from the Leflore County School District; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to teaching the craft of carpentry and serving as the boys basketball coach at R.B. Schlater, Mr. Weddington instilled in his students the value of a strong work ethic and strength of character; and

     WHEREAS, blessed by a marriage to Alma Ree Weddington, based on love, affection and faith in God, Andrew Weddington was a stellar example of how a husband should honor his wife, and an example of fatherhood when this special couple became the parents of a son; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to now stand on golden heavenly shores, the celebration of his life and the legacy of his commitment to teaching and of his service to others will continue in the memories of his survivors, including his wife, Alma Ree Weddington, his son, three grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, friends and former students.

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor the life and memory of honorable Mississippians such as Andrew Weddington, whose life was an inspiration in his community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. Andrew Weddington and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Andrew Weddington and to the members of the Capitol Press Corp.
