House Concurrent Resolution 131

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LIFE AND COMMENDING THE LEGACY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF MR. RONALD WADE "RONNIE" ROBERTSON.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Ronald Wade "Ronnie" Robertson, general manager of Delta Electric Power Association and former statesman of the Mississippi House of Representatives, departed this earthly life at the age of 61, on June 3, 2015, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, born in 1953, Mr. Robertson, who was affectionately referred to as Ronnie by his friends and loved ones, was reared in love, along with his siblings, Russell, Rickie and Robbie, by his parents, L.V. Robertson, Jr., and the late Martha Robertson; and

     WHEREAS, knowing the importance of receiving an education, Mr. Robertson was a 1971 graduate of Greenwood High School as well as a 1976 graduate of Delta State University; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson, while attending Delta State University, majored in political science, and he used his innate leadership skills by serving as president of the student

body - skills which would be utilized throughout his momentous life; and

     WHEREAS, known for wanting the best for the Delta Region, in 1979, which was only three years after graduating from college, Mr. Robertson was elected to District 34 of the Mississippi House of Representatives, where he served two terms representing the needs of the people of his district as well as the overall needs of this great state; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson, in 1998, joined Delta Electric Power Association, where due to his contributions and zeal at the utility cooperative, became the general manager in 2002 and provided the highest quality service to all of the members in the company's thirteen county service area; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to providing supreme and quality service at Delta Electric Power Association, Mr. Robertson was an active member of the community and served on both local and statewide boards such as the Golden Age Nursing Home and the Mississippi Economic Council; and

     WHEREAS, notably, in 2007, Mr. Robertson was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour to the State Board of Health where he was key in providing policy direction for the Mississippi State Department of Health; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson also selflessly served as chairman of the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation where he fostered and encouraged responsible community and economic development activities that ultimately resulted in job creation and retention, and an increased tax base, while simultaneously improving the sustainability and quality of life for the citizens of the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll area; and

     WHEREAS, due to his selfless commitment to the community, Mr. Robertson was named the 2010 Outstanding Citizen of Leflore County by the Greenwood Lions Club, which spoke volumes of his vast contributions to the community; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robertson, who served both his community and church, was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the church's board of trustees; and

     WHEREAS, throughout all of his endeavors, Mr. Robertson was lovingly supported by his beautiful wife Susan, and their three successful children, Robin, Ryan and Ronnie, along with his five doting grandchildren, Matthew, Millie, Ben, Wade and Woods; and

     WHEREAS, although Mr. Robertson has crossed the river of life to now stand on golden heavenly shores, the legacy of his memory will continue to thrive in the hearts of his loved ones and throughout the heart of the Delta; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to pay tribute to a Mississippian such as Mr. Robertson whose leadership and contributions in the Mississippi Delta and in this state as a whole will be treasured for generations to come:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life, legacy and contributions of Mr. Ronald Wade "Ronnie" Robertson and express deepest sympathy to his family and many friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Ronald Wade "Ronnie" Robertson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
