House Concurrent Resolution 57

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY TENNIS PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, the Alcorn State University Braves tennis program is a diverse program comprised of young men and women from all over the world who are welcomed to Alcorn State University to further their athletic and academic training; and

WHEREAS, the university recruits players that are interested in good academics, as well as playing tennis, and conform to the university's policy of graduating student-athletes in four years; and

WHEREAS, the tennis teams play a very competitive fall and spring schedule that includes competition with many ranked teams; and

WHEREAS, the teams are superbly coached by Head Coach Anthony Dodgen and Assistant Coach Pushpendra Rajpurohit who broaden the players' knowledge of the game and refine their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, since 1999 the program has achieved the following honors: 1999 Men's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant, 2000 Men's and Women's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participants, 2001 Women's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant, 2006 Men's SWAC Champions, 2007 Men's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant, 2008 Women's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant, 2009 Men's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant and 2011 Men's SWAC Champions and NCAA regional participant; and

WHEREAS, the Braves have a proven record of excellence which reflects their winning and cooperative spirit as well as an excellent academic record of achievement; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially as evidenced by the high caliber of athletic and academic achievement of the Men's and Women's teams of the Alcorn State University Braves tennis program:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Alcorn State University Braves tennis program, Head Coach Anthony Dodgen and Assistant Coach Pushpendra Rajpurohit for their outstanding program and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Alcorn State University, Head Coach Anthony Dodgen and Assistant Coach Pushpendra Rajpurohit and that copies be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
