House Resolution 100

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BAY HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A SOUTH HALF CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR PLACING SECOND IN THE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Bay High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team, led by a strong group of seniors, finished the 2014-2015 season with an outstanding overall record of 16 wins and only three losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A South State Championship by defeating Quitman High School by a score of 49-47 in an electrifying matchup that came down to the wire; and

     WHEREAS, a true buzzer beater, the Lady Tigers' sophomore guard, Jamaya Galloway, lobbed up an off-balance shot with less than four seconds remaining in the game, and the crowd held their breath as the ball bounced back and forth on both sides of the rim at least five times before sinking through the net at the buzzer, giving the Lady Tigers the two points they needed to win; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers' win over Quitman in the South Half Championship led them to the Class 4A State Championship Tournament, where the team finished runner-up to the state championship title; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers have been superbly coached and led by Head Coach Debra Triplett, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and enhanced and refined their skills on the court; and 

     WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Lady Tigers' roster is:  Aerion Dority, Simone Jackson, Danielle Vince, Amari Pittman, Taz Lewis, Breanna Fountain, Layla Waite, Elese Dorsey, Jamaya Galloway, Breanna Smith, Kirsten Piernas, Ashley Jorden, Tiahni Powell, Dasha Barnes, Head Coach Debbie Triplett and Assistant Coach Sara Taylor; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and an outstanding degree of sportsmanship, and their activities reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to Bay High School; and

     WHEREAS, all of the team members will carry the lessons learned throughout their lives as they compete in athletics, and these lessons will enhance their opportunities to be outstanding citizens; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, such as that displayed by the Lady Tigers Basketball Team, and it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes and their coaches, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to their state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bay High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team for winning the 2014-2015 MHSAA Class 4A South Half Championship and placing second in the Class 4A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bay High School, Head Coach Debra Triplett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
