A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SUCCESS AND COMMENDING THE COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF GABRIEL C. "GABE" JACKSON, NATIVE OF LIBERTY, MISSISSIPPI, AND OFFENSIVE GUARD FOR THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS FOOTBALL TEAM.

     WHEREAS, rising from the humble beginnings as the son of a football coach in the quaint community of Liberty, Mississippi, Gabriel C. "Gabe" Jackson has mounted quite an impressive record of athletic accomplishments from his freshmen year of competitive sports involvement at Amite County High School to his climactic senior year as a stellar performer for the Mississippi State University Bulldogs Football Team; and

     WHEREAS, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jackson, Gabe, who stands at a towering 6 feet 4 inches, is a 340-pound powerhouse that commands the attention of each opponent while protecting his offensive teammates' efforts to advance the pigskin down the gridiron field, a reputation that has garnered him much acclaim throughout the state, region and nation in national polls and rankings; and

     WHEREAS, during his high school years, Gabe ranked as the No. 52 offensive tackle prospect in the country and the third-best offensive lineman in Mississippi by recruiting website Scout.com, which credited him with a 5.1-second time in the 40-yard dash, while Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 85 offensive tackle prospect in the nation and as the No. 28 prospect in the State of Mississippi and the fourth-best offensive lineman on the chart, with The Clarion-Ledger vetting in the top 40 high school prospects in the State of Mississippi at the conclusion of his senior season; and

     WHEREAS, after redshirting his true freshman year in 2009, Gabe stepped onto the field in 2010 in commencement of his collegiate career during his redshirt freshman season of play with the ardent determination to make his presence and skill known both on and off the field and in the written records of statistics by earning the starting position as left guard and helping pave the way for the Bulldogs' rushing attack average of 214.8 yards per game, 16th in the nation and second highest in the SEC; and

     WHEREAS, Gabe's impressive display of athletic ability and sportsmanship, in addition to assisting the Bulldogs in rushing for more than 200 yards on seven different occasions, coupled with an 80 percent or greater grade out on six occasions, which include an impressive 93 percent grade out against Kentucky, and 40 knockdown blocks, earned him an SEC All-Freshman selection by the league coaches; and

     WHEREAS, started at left guard for all 13 games during his 2011 sophomore season his accomplishments include:  being named to the AP and Rivals.com All-SEC Second-Team; named to Rivals.com Sophomore All-American team; graded out as a champion in five games; a team-high record of 69 takedowns, with a season-high nine takedowns at Auburn; graded out at a career-high 91 percent against UT Martin; blocked for a running back who finished fourth in the SEC in rushing, while giving up the fifth-fewest sacks in the league, which were significant contributions to the team's reaching the top 10 in school history for single-season marks in passing touchdowns, passing completions, total yards and first downs; blocked for an offense that scored 50-plus points twice in the same season for the first time since 1914, and only the third time in school history since 1907; and

     WHEREAS, with continual strides made with each year of collegiate competition, Gabe was garnering the attention of more professional scouts and a rapidly expanding fan base with such laudable recognitions as:  his 2012 naming to the Phil Steele and FoxSportsNext All-America Second Team; honorable mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and Pro Football Weekly; First-Team All-SEC honors by the AP and Phil Steele; Second-Team honors by the SEC Coaches and ESPN.com; midseason All-American by Phil Steele and Scout.com; a member of the 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List and Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List; grading out a champion in 12 contests; led the way for another 100-yard rusher in the SEC win at Kentucky; graded out a season-high 95 percent in the nationally-televised win again Tennessee; recorded a season-best 12 pancake blocks and graded 89 percent at LSU; graded out a champion in the Egg Bowl rivalry game at Ole Miss; graded out a champion in the Gator Bowl; and his 2013 senior season naming as a First-Team All-American by Bleacher Report and a Second-Team All-American selection by Walter Camp, USA Today and Athion Sports; not giving up a sack the entire season in all 13 starting games; three-time SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, and the second MSU offensive lineman in school history to receive the honor two or more times; First-Team All-SEC honors by league coaches and Associated Press for the second straight year; and anchored the Bulldogs offensive line with an 89 percent grade out, four knockdowns while helping MSU to 556 yards of total offense against No. 11 Texas A&M, the most during a SEC contest under head coach Dan Mullen; and

     WHEREAS, hailed as one the elite offensive linemen in MSU history, who started all 52 games of his collegiate career at left guard, Mr. Jackson, who was awarded the C-Spire Cornerly Trophy as the top collegiate player in the State of Mississippi and the Kent Hull Award as the top offensive lineman in Mississippi, is considered to be the top guard prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft by ESPN.com; and

     WHEREAS, a two-time All-America selection and a two-time first-team All-SEC recipient, Gabe's devotion to hard work, spirit of sportsmanship and his undeniable athletic prowess paved the way for an MSU offense that shattered school records in total yards, first downs and yards per game, all of such noteworthy attributes combine to form an extraordinary resume' which positioned him to receive an invite to the NFL Combine in February 2014; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence of such remarkable student athletes and paramount ambassadors of success as demonstrated by Gabe Jackson:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the success and commend the collegiate athletic accomplishments of Gabriel C. "Gabe" Jackson, native of Liberty, Mississippi, and offensive guard for the Mississippi State University Bulldogs Football Team, and extend best and most sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
