A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SACRED HEART CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM UPON WINNING 2008-2009 AND 2009-2010 MISSISSIPPI STATE MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team has won back-to-back state mock trial titles in both the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Mississippi State Mock Trial State Championships; and

     WHEREAS, mock trial is an incredible opportunity for students to grow in a variety of areas including public speaking and poise, logic, rhetoric, teamwork, the ability to think on one's feet, and appreciation for the law; and

     WHEREAS, en route to their 2010 Mississippi State Mock Trial Championship, the members of the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team put in hours of hard work and preparation and with support from the community, has earned a reputation for excellence, courage and precision; and

     WHEREAS, known as "The Sisters of No Mercy," the Sacred Heart Team won competitions against the Magnolia State's finest mock trial teams; and

     WHEREAS, The Sisters of No Mercy are headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the city of brotherly love, in May to represent the Magnolia State in the National Mock Trial Championships; and

     WHEREAS, turning young women into adults, the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team's future is bright with Coaches Paul VanZandt, Don Hinton, David Miller and Austin Stewart at the helm; and

     WHEREAS, these coaches' wisdom and persistent preparation have equipped all of their mock trial students well for the sometimes inequitable challenges they will face throughout life; and

     WHEREAS, many of the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team members participate in more than one activity, having to balance not only school work during the day, but also multiple hours of meetings and practices beginning as soon as the school day ends; and

     WHEREAS, the roster of the 2009-2010 Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team includes Ashli Fitzpatrick, Ann Marie Mercier, Elizabeth Rust, Lindsay Thomas, Mary Beth Wolverton, Megan Fink, Briana Fennell and Casey Phillips; and

     WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of these stellar students is not only a clear indication of their outstanding academic ability, dedication and hard work, but also their drive and determination to be the best in the mock trial setting and in the classroom; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such a superb group of students, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Team upon winning the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 Mississippi State Mock Trial State Championships, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sacred Heart Catholic High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
