A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MERIDIAN HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC TEAM FOR WINNING THE PRESTIGIOUS FABER CLASSIC HOSTED BY ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL IN RIDGELAND, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, the Meridian High School Academic Team competed in the prestigious Faber Classic hosted by St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Ridgeland, Mississippi, where they were victorious over all the competition; and

     WHEREAS, the Faber Classic is a pre-qualifier tournament for the national round of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments; and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats won the championship final in dramatic fashion, forcing the match into overtime before senior, Manpreet Singh, answered the winning question; and

     WHEREAS, the Meridian High School Academic Team is comprised of:  seniors, Pieter Both, Daniel May and Manpreet Singh; and sophomores, Christopher Cross, Scott Ellis and Pearson Kelly; and

     WHEREAS, the Meridian High School Academic Team has been superbly captained by senior, Daniel May, who has provided great leadership in helping the team achieve their goals of winning tournaments such as the Faber Classic; and

     WHEREAS, these young people have practiced and worked together for many hours in the pursuit of excellence and have shown a high degree of excellence in academic knowledge and understanding while representing the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the following current members of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi are proud alums of Meridian High School, a place known for preparing strong leaders and successful citizens:  Representative Cecil Brown, 1962 graduate; Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden, 1972 graduate; Representative Charles Young, Jr., 1980 graduate; Representative Adrienne Wooten, 1992 graduate; and Representative Toby Barker, 2000 graduate; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, such as the Meridian High School Academic Team, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Meridian High School Academic Team upon winning the Faber Classic hosted by St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Ridgeland, Mississippi, and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Meridian High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
