A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ILLINOIS STATE REPRESENTATIVE CYRIL NICHOLS FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF JACKSON.
WHEREAS, Illinois State Representative Cyril Nichols of the 32nd District, along with his distinguished colleagues, Senate-Elect Willie Preston of the 16th District, and Alderman Derrick Curtis of the 18th Ward, sponsored a collection of water to help the City of Jackson, an incredible service to the Capital City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jackson has been experiencing a tremendous water crisis, and these distinguished gentlemen from Illinois stepped up and provided much needed help and support to the residents of Jackson; and
WHEREAS, with the goal being to send and distribute 1,500 cases of water to Jackson, on Monday, September 5, 2022, Representative Nichols, along with his colleagues, sponsored a collection of more than 18 pallets of water from their community on Saturday, September 3, 2022, and each pallet contained 84 cases of water, exceeding that goal; and
WHEREAS, remarkably, an 18 wheeler truck was loaded with over 1,500 cases of water at Transformation Church's parking lot located at 7711 S. Kedzie Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois, and made its delivery to Jackson that Monday morning, on September 5; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nichols flew to Jackson on Sunday, September 4, 2022, and stayed until the morning of Wednesday, September 7, 2022, and he distributed the cases of water with Representative Crudup and his team at the New Horizons Ministries on Tuesday, September 6, 2022; and
WHEREAS, while in Jackson, Representative Nichols toured the water facility, did site investigations and sent back word to his colleagues about the water situation in Jackson, and he spoke about the need to assist the residents of Jackson and encouraged families to continue making donations; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize extraordinary leaders, especially those such as Representative Cyril Nichols, whose hard work, philanthropy, and dedication to serving others bring honor to the State of Illinois and is greatly appreciated by the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Illinois State Representative Cyril Nichols for his outstanding service and contributions to the City of Jackson.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Cyril Nichols and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
