A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE JACK GADD FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Jack Gadd, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make the 2011 legislative year his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Gadd was born in Memphis, Tennessee, was reared in Hickory Flat and after graduating from Hickory Flat High School, he attended Northwest Mississippi Community College and then attended the University of Mississippi where he received a bachelor of science degree; and

     WHEREAS, after receiving his bachelor of science degree, Representative Gadd attended graduate school at the University of Mississippi where he received a master's degree in physical education; and

     WHEREAS, Jack was initially elected in November 1992 by the citizens of District 13, which consisted of Benton, DeSoto and Marshall Counties at that time and which now consists of Benton, Lafayette, Marshall and Union Counties; and

     WHEREAS, due to his outstanding representation of his district, Representative Gadd has served District 13 for 20 productive and dynamic years; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Gadd has utilized the wisdom and experience that he has accrued over his 20 years to guide him in his leadership duties as Vice Chairman of the Universities and Colleges and Tourism Committees; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his vice chairmanships, Representative Gadd has served on the following committees:  Ways and Means, Appropriations, Penitentiary, Transportation, Agriculture, Ethics, County Affairs, Public Buildings and Grounds and Reapportionment and Redistricting; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his committed service to the House of Representatives, Representative Gadd also served as an educator and coach for many years; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Gadd, a family man, is a strong man of faith and is an active member of the Baptist church; and

     WHEREAS, Jack and his wife, Merri (Pebble) Stone, are the proud parents of Cody, Jeanie Anne and Jacob; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize one who has represented District 13, as well as this legislative body, with honor, respect and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Jack Gadd for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Jack Gadd and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
