A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE, MERITORIOUS SERVICE AND LEGACY OF MR. ROBERT HENRY BRAMLETT, SR., AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING.

      WHEREAS, a man of honor, a true soldier and public servant to this state as well as this country was lost on March 7, 2013, when Mr. Robert Henry Bramlett, Sr., passed from this life to his immortal rest to be with his heavenly Father; and

     WHEREAS, born on April 15, 1936, Mr. Bramlett lived a life of meritorious service for 23 years as a dedicated member of the United States Army Special Forces; and

     WHEREAS, he was wounded in Laos during the Vietnam Conflict, and as a result of his brave sacrifice and commitment to his country, he earned the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal and Soldiers Medal; and

     WHEREAS, his love for his fellow veterans ran so deep that after his official service in the United States Army, he became a tireless advocate for veterans in Pontotoc; and

     WHEREAS, also active in organizations that supported veterans' causes, he was a member and past Commander of Pontotoc American Legion Post 16 for more than 20 years, a member of the "40 and 8," a member and past Commander of Disabled American Veterans in Tupelo; and

     WHEREAS, as evidence of his unselfish personal devotion to veterans, he would personally transport them for treatment as well as ensure they had his assistance with the Veteran Affairs disability claims process; and

     WHEREAS, driven by his passion to help the needy and underserved, he served on the Board of the American Red Cross for more than nine years, gave $2.00 bills to young people whenever he would meet them while eating or shopping, willingly contributed financially toward educational scholarships for young people in the northeast part of Mississippi and actively supported the American Legion Boys State and Girls State programs as well as the American Legion Baseball Team; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bramlett's strong personal leadership was critical in getting the highway designation for the military order of the Purple Heart from the Arkansas state line across Mississippi to the Alabama state line; and

     WHEREAS, to cherish his memory, he leaves five sons, Robert, Randall, Regan, Russell and Ryan; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the life of a true American hero who has not only fought our nation's wars but battled social wars on behalf of his fellow veterans such as Mr. Bramlett:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That we do hereby honor the distinguished and meritorious life of Mr. Robert Henry Bramlett, Sr., and express our deepest sympathy to his family upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the sons of Mr. Bramlett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
