A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED AND MERITORIOUS SERVICE OF MR. ANDRE’ L. CURRY RENDERED TO MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY AS VICE PRESIDENT FOR BUSINESS AND FINANCE AND ACKNOWLEDGING HIS TIRELESS DEVOTION TO THE INSTITUTION FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Andre’ L. Curry, a Greenville native, who was first employed at Mississippi Valley State University in 1989 as the Vice President of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs, whose title was changed in 2009 to Vice President of Business and Finance, has announced his plans for retirement from the institution of higher learning after more than 20 years of service; and

     WHEREAS, as Vice President for Business and Finance and serving as the University Investment Officer, his responsibilities were critical to the daily management of all business and financial functions of the university, which:  support the educational activities; provide services to enrolled students, faculty, staff and administration; provide protection of physical assets of the university; provide supervision of formulation of policies and procedures for physical plant operation and maintenance, security and safety of campus property and employees, human resources, safety and health programs, information technology and auxiliary enterprise activities; and

     WHEREAS, adamant with regard to educational enrichment and success, Mr. Curry, after graduating from high school, furthered his matriculation at Alcorn State University and Jackson State University, respectively earning from those institutions a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a master of professional accountancy, and underwent the necessary processes to become a certified public accountant in the State of Mississippi, and earned a certificate of business management in Lexington, Kentucky; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Curry, well versed and learned in the accounting profession for more than 35 years, began his accounting career with the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning in several capacities, including:  accounting clerk, accountant, chief accountant and director of accounting; and

     WHEREAS, upon the conclusion of his duties with the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, Mr. Curry was gainfully employed by Mississippi Valley State University as the university's chief fiscal officer in his role as Vice President for Business and Finance; and

     WHEREAS, equally involved in numerous professional and civic associations as he is with his university responsibilities, Mr. Curry maintains active affiliations with such organizations as: the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accounts, the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO) Comprehensive Committee, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Reaffirmation Visiting Committees, University Press Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Mississippi Valley State University in an advisory capacity; and

     WHEREAS, having served with distinction, excellence and integrity, Mr. Curry acknowledges God as the source of all his accomplishments in allowing him to fortify the esteem and honor of the university during his tenure, which have all worked collaboratively in the privilege afforded him to receive favorable opinions from the Mississippi State Office of Audit; and

     WHEREAS, throughout all of his career transitions and relocations, Mr. Curry has enjoyed the constant support of his wife of 31 years, Vickie Nelson Curry; their four children, Andrea, Andre’ II, Adaiah and Aaron; and their grandson Adaiah II; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the outstanding efforts of dedicated individuals to the advancement and financial stability of the state's institutions of higher learning, such as Mr. Curry:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated and meritorious service of Mr. Andre’ L. Curry to Mississippi Valley State University as Vice President for Business and Finance, acknowledge his tireless devotion to the institution for more than 20 years, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement and extend best wishes for enjoyment and success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Curry and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
