A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PAYNE EDWARD SLEEPER OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS NUMEROUS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE AS A STUDENT AT CORINTH HIGH SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, Payne Edward Sleeper has accomplished so much as a student at Corinth High School Academic and Performing Arts Center, a true testament to his academic excellence and dedication to greatness; and
WHEREAS, Payne is a recipient of the Advanced International Certificate of Education, Diploma with Merit, and as of October 1, 2019, his overall weighted GPA was 4.31, his nonweighted GPA was 4.00 and his overall ACT score was a 32; and
WHEREAS, Payne has earned numerous academic achievements, which include being named to the Corinth High School Hall of Fame, Principal's Honor Roll since 2016, Cambridge University awards, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and countless other awards; and
WHEREAS, his extracurricular activities and recognition rival his superior academic achievements, having earned the distinction of Eagle Scout in 2016 as a member of Troop 27 of the Boy Scouts of America, National Runner Up by the Rural Electric Cooperatives National Youth Council, State Winner for the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Program, President of the Corinth High School Student Council from 2016-2018, Most Handsome, performances including lead roles in numerous musical productions and competition plays, member of the Corinth High School Golf Team, and equipment management and film for the Corinth High School Soccer Team, as well as participation in numerous other societies, conferences and activities; and
WHEREAS, Payne sets a high bar for others in his community by his leadership in community engagement, having been recognized with the DAR Good Citizen Award, President of the Mayor's Youth Council, Junior Leadership Award for Outstanding Service by Junior Leadership Alcorn, Care-A-Van, and volunteering for numerous community charitable and other causes; and
WHEREAS, Payne somehow has found time around his academic and extracurricular emphases to work as a cleaning and delivery assistant for Crossroads Medical Supply since 2016, self-teach himself the ukulele, participate in public speaking opportunities, and play recreational basketball and video games when he can find time for leisure; and
WHEREAS, Payne will undoubtedly succeed as he continues to further his education, and during his tenure, he will excel academically as he has in the past and serve as an inspiration and positive role model for all those who have the opportunity to study and work with him; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the youth of Mississippi, especially those such as Payne Edward Sleeper, whose accolades and community engagement have brought honor to his parents, his community and to the great State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Payne Edward Sleeper upon his numerous academic achievements, accomplishments and community service, and express sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Payne Edward Sleeper and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
