A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JAKE MOFFITT, RESPECTFULLY KNOWN AS "MOFFITT THE MEDALIST" UPON WINNING BACK-TO-BACK STATE GOLF MEDALIST HONORS IN THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 4A STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS AS A SOPHOMORE AND A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.

     WHEREAS, proving that hard work and diligence are the keys to success, Jake Moffitt, a junior high school student at Ripley High School, has affectionately and reverently earned the title  "Moffit the Medalist" because of his stellar golf skills and impressive winning record; and

     WHEREAS, Jake has not only led his high school golf team to consecutive championship titles back-to-back, but he also earned back-to-back medalist honors; and

     WHEREAS, his second medalist honor title was earned with an overall best of 176, by shooting a 71 in the opening round and a 76 over the final 18 holes; and

     WHEREAS, currently a junior at Ripley High School, he has led the varsity golf team to its second straight boys golf title by claiming the Class 4A title at Dancing Rabbit Golf course in Philadelphia; and

     WHEREAS, just five months earlier in May when Jake was a sophomore, he led the golf team to win its first 2023 Class 4A State championship title which was held at the Pontotoc Country Club; and

     WHEREAS, as a result of his leadership play, Ripley High School's golf team has now earned an unprecedented win of two state titles within one calendar year; and

     WHEREAS, Jake is also known as a "Leader in the Clubhouse" because he has won a majority of the twelve golf tournaments that Ripley High School has played in before the team's state tournament win; and

     WHEREAS, during these back-to-back wins, Jake was the one consistent as the team's first win was superbly coached by Chad Brown, and the second win was excellently coached by Nik Wilcher; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Wilcher admires Jake's skills and takes no credit for the player he is, Coach Wilcher believes Jake is "still one of the best golfers in the state" even when he is not on top of his game; and

     WHEREAS, described as one of the Magnolia state's best junior golfers, he is preparing to compete in the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championships in Kinder, Louisiana in November; and

     WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to honor and celebrate the splendid student athletes in our state who lead with grace and skill while bringing honor to their schools and families:

     NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi, we do hereby commend and congratulate Jake Moffitt, respectfully known as "Moffitt the Medalist", upon winning back-to-back state golf medalist honors in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A state golf championships as a sophomore and a junior high school student.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jake Moffitt, Coach Nik Wilcher, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
