A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ROCK SOLID YOUTH EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF WAYNESBORO, MISSISSIPPI, FOR THEIR PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS TOWARD SENIOR CITIZENS.

     WHEREAS, Rock Solid Youth Education Foundation is a successful youth development organization in Waynesboro, Mississippi, started by Dan Jones eleven years ago, that places a large focus on philanthropic efforts toward senior citizens in the community; and

     WHEREAS, the foundation is devoted to teaching leadership and the importance of citizenship to youth, and it qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization and is a complete nonprofit organization doing outstanding work in the Waynesboro and surrounding Wayne County community; and 

     WHEREAS, more than 360 youth have been in the program and around 40 youth are currently active, and Sean Dunlap, economic district development director, estimates that students have done service easily worth more than $100,000.00 through the foundation; and

     WHEREAS, one of the program's incentives is for young people to help the senior citizens in the community, and in doing so it works to enable older folks to help the youth; and

     WHEREAS, Dan Jones believes, "While the young participants are helping the older participants, the older participants kind of talk to them and try to guide them in the right direction.  It is not something that we tell them to do, it just happens naturally."; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the excellent and dedicated public service of the youth of the Rock Solid Youth Education Foundation, who serve and are served by the treasured senior citizens of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the philanthropic efforts toward senior citizens by the Rock Solid Youth Education Foundation, and extend best wishes to its youth and leaders for continued success in all of their future endeavors. 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Rock Solid Youth Education Foundation, Dan Jones and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
