A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING LIEUTENANT COLONEL MALACHI SANDERS UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL.

     WHEREAS, after over 29 years of unparalleled service to the State of Mississippi, Lieutenant Colonel Malachi Sanders plans to retire as Deputy Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol; and

     WHEREAS, a graduate of Mississippi Highway Patrol Cadet Class 48, Lt. Colonel Sanders began his law enforcement career in Clarke County, Mississippi, working extensively in the patrol division, and he also earned several commendations in enforcement; and

     WHEREAS, a veteran officer with experience at all supervisory levels, Lt. Colonel Sanders was promoted to Deputy Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 2020, and throughout his years of exemplary service, he also served in other duty assignments, including as the Director of Mississippi Highway Patrol's Special Operations Division, public affairs officer, assistant troop commander, troop executive officer, troop commander and special operations major; and

     WHEREAS, during his illustrious career in law enforcement, Lt. Colonel Sanders faced dangerous situations each day that demanded he put his life on the line, and each time he received the call, he fearlessly and bravely rushed into perilous predicaments and responded to a variety of emergency events; and

     WHEREAS, Lt. Colonel Sanders has distinguished himself by providing superior leadership, and his indomitable grit, high level of expertise and passionate determination will be dearly missed by all of his colleagues and others who were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him and experience his greatness; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor extraordinary, heroic Mississippians, especially those such as Lt. Colonel Sanders, whose outstanding leadership, dauntless fortitude, and unwavering duty brings honor to the Mississippi Highway Patrol and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Lieutenant Colonel Malachi Sanders upon the occasion of his retirement as Deputy Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and extend sincere wishes for his continued success in the lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution shall be furnished to Lieutenant Colonel Malachi Sanders, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
