A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF LADY BULLDOGS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING MASON-DIXON CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 Mississippi School for the Deaf Lady Bulldogs completed an exceptional undefeated 8-0 season, punctuated by winning the Mason-Dixon Tournament, featuring the 11 southeastern state schools for the deaf, earning themselves a permanent place in the annals of the school's athletic history; and
WHEREAS, over the course of the season the Lady Bulldogs were no match for their opponents, they defeated all eight schools for the deaf they faced and also defeated four public schools, earning themselves a place in the South State Basketball Playoffs; and
WHEREAS, after the 2014-2015 season ended in heartbreak with a close loss in the semi-finals, this group of resilient athletes resolved to make the 2015-2016 season theirs, playing championship basketball from whistle to whistle, they embodied the never give up mentality of true champions; and
WHEREAS, led by Head Coach Holly Reichle and Assistant Coaches Victorica Monroe and Laura Beth Rushing, the Lady Bulldogs championship roster includes Jasmine McCray, Jaleah Dortch, Shanieka Coleman, Shakeedra Hubbard, Tamara Grant, Guan Ya Smith, Maurin Andrews, Keiarah Barnes, Kylisha Cathey, Nilah Orey, Faith Latham and Nene Bush; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Mississippi School for the Deaf Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team who have brought great honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi School for the Deaf Lady Bulldogs upon completing an excellent undefeated season, winning the 2016 Mason-Dixon Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach and Mississippi School for the Deaf Athletic Director Holly Reichle, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
