WHEREAS, on March 27, 2016, the Mississippi State Bulldogs Women's Basketball Team completed an excellent 28-8 season, punctuated with its highest ever ranking at number six, its second trip to the Sweet 16 in the school's history, earning the players an indelible place in the annals of the school's athletic history; and

WHEREAS, with a program record 28 wins, the Lady Bulldogs  proved they were on a mission to make history, establishing new records in Southeastern Conference wins and home attendance at Humphrey Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, finishing the regular season with 26 wins, the Bulldogs punched their ticket for a trip to the 2016 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament as a fifth seed, allowing the Bulldogs to host the first NCAA tournament game at Humphrey Coliseum in school history where the Bulldogs beat the University of Chattanooga Mocs, 60-50; and

WHEREAS, the second round of the tournament found the Bulldogs facing the formidable fourth seed, Michigan State Spartans; refusing to relinquish, the Bulldogs outlasted the Spartans 74-72 to earn its second trip to the Sweet 16 in school history; and

WHEREAS, the end of the season finds the Bulldogs ranked second in the Southeastern Conference overall, supported by a record 92,914 fans at Humphrey Coliseum over the course of the season, a new school record; and

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs record setting roster includes:  Blair Schaefer, Morgan William, Breanna Richardson, Sherise Williams, Dominique Dillingham, Jazzmun Holmes, Roshunda Johnson, Jazmine Spears, Ketara Chapel, Teaira McCowan, Kayla Nevitt, Zion Campbell, Victoria Vivians, LaKaris Salter and Chinwe Okorie; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Mississippi State Women's Basketball Team who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi State Bulldogs Women's Basketball Team upon completing an excellent 28-8 season, competing in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
