A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MARY DEE KEMP ON BEING NAMED CORINTH JUNIOR AUXILIARY OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF 2013.

     WHEREAS, Mary Dee Kemp, an educator for more than 30 years, was honored at the Corinth Junior Auxiliary's annual Charity Ball as Junior Auxiliary Outstanding Citizen of 2013; and

     WHEREAS, she was nominated for the honor because of her big heart, southern charm and dedication to others both in and out of the classroom; and

     WHEREAS, Kemp, a Biggersville, Mississippi, native, briefly taught at Farmington in the 1970s before teaching in the Memphis schools and later spent more than 20 years with the Alcorn School District where she taught junior high history, inspiring many young people with a love of history; and

     WHEREAS, while at Central she began the Geography Bees for her students, taking them to county and state contests; and

     WHEREAS, at First Presbyterian Church Kemp was a driving force to launch the Presbyterian Day School in 1973, a program that continues today and she also formed The Friendship Class for special-needs adults which continues as well; and

     WHEREAS, she was involved in the establishment of the Artist Series which has brought professional musicians, dancers and drama to the local theatre; and

     WHEREAS, Kemp helped form Horizon, a support organization for the city and county school districts, and she has led Girl Scout troops; and

     WHEREAS, she has been one of the key players in bringing back a regular home tour and art auction to benefit efforts to restore Verandah-Curlee House; and

     WHEREAS, an avid tennis player who has drawn many to the courts, Mary Dee Kemp is the personification of determination, discipline and dedication; and

     WHEREAS, with husband, Sam, Mary Dee Kemp is the proud parent of three children, Jan Kaplan, Julie Miller and Jodi McNeese, and the proud grandparent of eight grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, she is an Elder at New Hope Presbyterian Church and is an enthusiastic painter and gardener; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the exemplary accomplishments of an outstanding citizen such as Mary Dee Kemp:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mary Dee Kemp upon being named Junior Auxiliary Outstanding Citizen of 2013.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mary Dee Kemp and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
