A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. DUDLEY HUDSON DENHAM UPON HIS PASSING AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley Hudson Denham, age 76, departed this earthly life on December 21, 2012, causing great loss to his family and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Gary, Indiana, Mr. Denham was born on October 6, 1936, to his loving parents, Robert and Mildred Denham, who reared him, along with nine siblings, in love; and

     WHEREAS, after attending Roosevelt High School, Mr. Denham began his life-long and fulfilling auto worker career at the Budd Company, where he faithfully served as an assembler and was a union shop steward until his retirement in 1978; and

     WHEREAS, as a passionate union steward for United Auto Workers Union (UAW), Mr. Denham not only represented the interests of he and his fellow workers, he also saw to the needs of the less fortunate within his community; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Denham, along with other union members of his chapter, made sure that many children and families who were in need in Gary, Indiana, had wonderfully blessed Christmases; and

     WHEREAS, after making positive impacts at the Budd Company as well as the community, Mr. Denham, after retiring, met and married his beautiful wife, Annie Jean, on October 27, 1979; and

     WHEREAS, soon after marriage, Mr. Denham and his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and upon arriving, Mr. Denham discovered that the state did not have a chapter for the UAW and soon thereafter, he became one of the first organizers for the first active chapter of the Central Mississippi, UAW, where he served as president until his health began to fail; and

     WHEREAS, due to Mr. Denham's efforts, the State of Mississippi now has an active chapter of UAW, and it also has a retiree chapter, which speaks volumes of his dedication to the plight of serving others; and

     WHEREAS, throughout all of his endeavors, Mr. Denham, a great patriarch and husband, was lovingly supported by his wife of 33 years, Annie Jean, and their loving children:  Fred, Darryl, LaTrice, Duvon, Evon, Vaughn, Shannon, and late daughter, Denean; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives, to pay tribute to great pioneers, such as Mr. Denham, whose selfless service to his family and community serves as a model for us all:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and long-lasting legacy of Mr. Dudley Hudson Denham and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family members of Mr. Denham and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
