A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. RAYMOND O'NEAL GROGAN, JR., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Raymond O'Neal Grogan, Jr., is retiring after selflessly dedicating over 52 years of illustrious service in law enforcement; and

     WHEREAS, the Meridian and Lauderdale County communities have benefitted tremendously from the cardinal guidance and innate leadership of Mr. Grogan, and throughout his tenure, he has utilized his expertise to serve others with efficiency and effectiveness, exercising the utmost diligence to uphold the principles of the law he was sworn to preserve and protect; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Grogan began his distinguished career in law enforcement in 1966 as a patrolman for the Meridian Police Department, where he served until 1996, and while there, he rose through the ranks and held the following positions:  Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Patrol Captain, Juvenile Detective, Detective Lieutenant, Detective Captain, Chief of Detectives, Assistant Chief of Police and Patrol Major; and

     WHEREAS, after working with the Meridian Police Department, Mr. Grogan joined the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office and served as Deputy Process Server, Deputy (Courts Division) and Sergeant (Courts Division); and

     WHEREAS, after many years of providing exceptional service in law enforcement, retirement will surely leave an insatiable void in Mr. Grogan's heart, because he enjoys serving others, but he is overjoyed to rest, relax and reflect on the countless number of people whose lives he has touched throughout his remarkable career; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Grogan has been an outstanding servant to the citizens of Meridian and Lauderdale County, and will be dearly missed by all of his colleagues and others who were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend extraordinary Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Raymond O'Neal Grogan, Jr., whose tireless devotion to serving others brings honor to the Meridian and Lauderdale County communities and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious service that Mr. Raymond O'Neal Grogan, Jr., provided in law enforcement for Meridian and Lauderdale County upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend sincerest wishes for continued success and joy in his lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Raymond O'Neal Grogan, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
