A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CORINTH SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT DR. LEE CHILDRESS UPON BEING NAMED CITIZEN OF THE YEAR BY THE CORINTH JUNIOR AUXILIARY.

     WHEREAS, on April 2, 2016, Corinth School District Superintendent Dr. Lee Childress was named the Citizen of the Year by the Corinth Junior Auxiliary, in recognition of years of dedicated hard work and unflinching commitment to education; and

     WHEREAS, Superintendent Childress has served as Superintendent of the Corinth School District since 2001, a true leader in education he goes far beyond the usual call of duty, in making decisions for his school district he regularly goes the extra mile, considering how every decision will impact each individual student within his district; and

     WHEREAS, as Corinth School District Superintendent, Dr. Childress has overseen the construction of the new elementary school, the launch of the Cambridge Curriculum and a variety of new programs introduced by the Mississippi Department of Education; and

     WHEREAS, prior to serving as the Corinth School District Superintendent, Dr. Childress served as Assistant Superintendent from 1990-2001; he also served a year as the Director of School Improvement for Desoto County Schools and taught social studies from 1981-1987 at Clarksdale High School; and

     WHEREAS, Superintendent Childress' civic involvement includes:  the Corinth Area Arts Council, United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs, The Alliance, Community Development Council, Horizon Educational Foundation, Corinth Symphony, LINK, South Corinth Weed and Seed Project, along with various church activities and among others; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding contributions to education in Mississippi like that of Superintendent Dr. Lee Childress and share in his joy as he is recognized as a supreme citizen of Corinth:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Superintendent Dr. Lee Childress upon being named the Citizen of the Year by the Corinth Junior Auxiliary and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Superintendent Dr. Lee Childress and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
