A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. MAYA MCINNIS UPON BEING NAMED A 2016 LINDY CALLAHAN SCHOLAR-ATHLETE.
WHEREAS, Ms. Maya McInnis earned the honor of being named a 2016 Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete, recognition for her outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McInnis, a senior at Gautier High School in Gautier, Mississippi, has distinguished herself throughout her high school career, earning acclaim in a variety of sports and activities, as well as having also found success in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, as a student at Gautier High School, Ms. McInnis played volleyball, soccer, softball and basketball and she also shared her musical talents, playing trumpet in the band and represented her school as a member of the color guard and earned the honor of being elected Miss Gautier High School; and
WHEREAS, to receive the Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete distinction, Ms. McInnis was first chosen to represent her school within its Mississippi High School Activities Association district and based on her academic and athletic achievements she was then chosen to represent the entire 8th district by accepting this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the honor and acclaim of this award, Ms. McInnis will also receive $1,500.00 in scholarship funds to attend the institution of her choice, through the support of MHSAA partners; and
WHEREAS, after Ms. McInnis crosses the stage to accept her Gautier High School diploma she will continue her educational pursuits at Alcorn State University, where she has been accepted and earned a full scholarship based on her many academic and athletic achievements; and
WHEREAS, while attending Alcorn State University Ms. McInnis plans to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor by studying medicine; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the outstanding achievements of students like Ms. Maya McInnis, who exemplifies the qualities of a true high school student athlete and through her many achievements has brought great honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Maya McInnis upon being named a 2016 Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Maya McInnis, Gautier High School Principal Al Sparkman and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
