House Resolution 99

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. LELIAR ANN WILLIAMS BETHLEY, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Leliar Ann Williams Bethley, to eternal rest, as she has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi lost a wonderful friend, community leader, Christian and educator on Sunday, March 3, 2013, with the passing of Mrs. Bethley, born on September 3, 1944, to the late Clarence S. Williams and Lucy Mae Dawkins Williams; and

WHEREAS, she confessed a childhood hope in Christ and was an upstanding, lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she actively engaged in the functions of various church auxiliaries during her membership; and

WHEREAS, she was an excellent student and graduated from L.J. Rowan High School, Class of 1963, and subsequently enrolled in William Carey College, where she earned credits in Early Childhood Development; and

WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of her life by the Great Deity, Mrs. Bethley's heart was pierced by the love, chivalry and affection of Mr. Henry Bethley, and the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony, and the family unit was made complete with the fruitful addition of eight children; and

WHEREAS, a God-fearing Christian before all other roles she assumed, a devoted wife and nurturing mother next, and always the peoples' advocate, Mrs. Bethley, the living embodiment of a woman of Proverbs 31:10 distinction and possessing the ambitious spirit akin to that of King David, was a woman after God's own heart as she strove to be of service to those in need as evidenced by her humanitarianism and volunteerism with the Edward Street Mission; and

WHEREAS, though she has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon her arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, including her parents and son, Lollis, the legacy of Mrs. Bethley's memory, which if put to music, would be a majestic symphonic masterpiece composed by the Holy Trinity, will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her beloved survivors:  husband, Henry Bethley; daughters, Owinda, Lordeas, Saundra Gail, Alishia and Arlisa; sons, Harry and Brandon; and a number of grandchildren, other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the selfless humanitarianism of an individual of the esteemed caliber as that of Mrs. Bethley:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Leliar Ann Williams Bethley to whose family we express sincere and deepest sympathy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Bethley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
