A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING OLE MISS CORNERBACK SENQUEZ GOLSON FOR BEING NAMED CONSENSUS AND UNANIMOUS FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN.

     WHEREAS, Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson is a consensus First Team All-American.  Golson led the Southeastern Conference with 10 interceptions as a senior and finished the regular season with 41 tackles, including three tackles for loss.  He also deflected eight passes this season, and had 15 interceptions in his four-year career at Ole Miss; and

     WHEREAS, Golson's most memorable interception will remain the one in the end zone against No. 1 Alabama to seal the Rebels' 23-17 victory against the top-ranked Tide; and

     WHEREAS, Senquez's honors include: 

     ·  All-American First Team (Walter Camp, FWAA, AP, AFCA, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, ESPN.com, CBS Sports, Scout.com, Athlon, Phil Steele, College Sports Madness, Sports on Earth).  First consensus and unanimous First Team All-American at Ole Miss since 2008;

     ·  SEC Defensive Player of the Year (Scout.com, College Sports Madness);

     ·  All-SEC First Team (AP, Coaches, ESPN.com, Athlon, Phil Steele, College Sports Madness);

     ·  Bronko Nagurski Trophy Finalist;

     ·  Senior Bowl Invitee;

     ·  Conerly Trophy Finalist;

     ·  Chuck Bednarik Award Semifinalist;

     ·  Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalist;

     ·  Mid-season All-American First Team (CBSSports.com, ESPN.com, Sporting News, Phil Steele);

     ·  Mid-season All-American Second Team (SI.com);

     ·  Mid-season All-SEC First Team (ESPN.com, Phil Steele);

     ·  Week 3 National DB of the Week (CFPA);

     ·  Week 6 DB of the Week HM (Thorpe Award);

     ·  Week 8 National DB of the Week - HM (CFPA);

     ·  Week 8 National Senior of the Week (Senior Bowl);

     ·  Week 9 National DB of the Week - HM (CFPA); and

     WHEREAS, a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Golson is the first Ole Miss player named a unanimous First Team All-American since Michael Oher in 2008.  Golson is the 56th First Team All-American selection in Ole Miss football history.  He is the first Ole Miss cornerback to earn that status since Ken Lucas in 2000.  It is the second straight year that a Rebel has earned First Team All-America status; and

     WHEREAS, Senquez is to be congratulated for choosing to stay at Ole Miss and play football and baseball, and deferring a million dollar signing bonus with the Boston Red Sox; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding student athlete who has brought honor to his team, his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson for being named consensus and unanimous First Team All-American, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to Senquez and his family for this singular honor.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senquez Golson, forwarded to Ole Miss Football Coach Hugh Freeze and Chancellor Dan Jones and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
