Senate Concurrent Resolution 558

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HERNANDO HIGH SCHOOL "MARCHING TIGERS" FOR WINNING THE 2014 MHSAA 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

WHEREAS, DeSoto County High School bands dominated the 2014 MHSAA State Marching Band Competition, capturing the 5A Title and sweeping First through Third Place in 6A.  In Division 6A, Hernando High School won First Place in the MHSAA State Band Competition for the first time in school history; and

WHEREAS, "Every Hernando student understands what hard work, not only inside but outside the classroom, can do, high school and beyond," said Hernando High School Principal Freddie Joseph.  "Our band had an incredible season," said Joseph.  Under the direction of Director Len Killough and Assistant Band Directors Victoria Jones and Brenon Eaton, the marching band won the Class 6-A State Championship Title in Clinton.  With the moving show entitled "Alpine Crossing," the band won First Place over all other 6-A schools.  "Our kids have worked so hard for so long," said Brenon Eaton.  "They are proud to represent our school and our community in such a positive way"; and

WHEREAS, "This is a culmination of years of hard work.  We feel very fortunate that we have the students, parents, administration, and community to achieve the goal," Band Director Len Killough said of the Championship season.  "Our students are very special and they deserve this"; and

WHEREAS, what began as a goal to win State Championships turned into much more.  This became a unique way to honor the Hernando Community and their families; and it is with great pride that we recognize this dedicated group of student musicians who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hernando High School "Marching Tigers" Band and staff for winning the 2014 Class 6A State Marching Band Championship, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the band, directors, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Director of the Marching Tigers Band and the Principal of Hernando High School, forwarded to the DeSoto County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
