A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL "LADY AGGIES" BOWLING TEAM FOR WINNING THE STATE BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, Kossuth High School "Lady Aggies" won the High School State Bowling Championship on March 18, 2015, at Thunder Bowl Lanes, even though there was a weather interruption. Kossuth's Lady Aggies bowled a 2,775 on March 5 at Fannin Lanes in Flowood to take the lead in the eight-team MHSAA Class I field, then had to wait until the Philadelphia Team bowled because they missed their scheduled date to bowl due to weather concerns; and
WHEREAS, "It may have been anticlimactic, but we were excited," Coach Creighton Nelms said. "We were getting live updates from Fulton and we were nervous. They all put in the hours and the work"; and
WHEREAS, Kossuth finished second last season, losing the Baker Finals to Tremont. The Baker format was dropped this season in favor of a four-game pin count because of weather delays; and
WHEREAS, the Aggies won this season with two returning bowlers, Seniors Alison Strickland, who led her team with a 587 high series, and Samantha Talley. Five other seniors bowled for the first time this season: Abbie Clausel, Claire Cornelius, Jasmine Lee, Kaylee Martin and Alyssa Rice. Kerissa Martin is an eighth grader; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this team which has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Kossuth High School "Lady Aggies" Bowling Team for winning the State Championship, and extend to them our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Nelms and Principal Mike Kimmons, forwarded to the Alcorn County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
