A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAGNOLIA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER IN CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Magnolia Regional Health Center is a 200-bed acute care community hospital that is jointly owned by the City of Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi, and is fully accredited by The Joint Commission.  MRHC has been in existence since 1965 and has grown into the largest employer in Alcorn County; and

     WHEREAS, in 2007, MRHC constructed an addition which included three new patient floors, a surgical intensive care unit, new private short stay surgery rooms, new private pre- and post-heart cath rooms, new surgery recovery positions, three additional new operating rooms, a new cardiac rehabilitation area, and six new medical office suites.  Additionally, the Magnolia Heart and Vascular Center was opened that same year offering cardiac intervention and open-heart surgery; and

     WHEREAS, in 2013, Magnolia Regional Health Center opened its newly constructed 53,000 square feet addition, which included a new front entrance.  A new radiology department was also built, allowing the center to house state-of-the-art equipment such as the 1.5 large bore MRI, three 128 slice CT scanners, two Spect CT Nuclear Cameras, digital mammography, and stereotactic biopsy.  Also in the new construction area is a new Emergency Department, Cardiology area, Lab area and centralized registration; and

     WHEREAS, the citizens of Corinth and Alcorn County are extremely proud of their facility, technologies, and quality of service that they are able to use while providing excellent care to patients; and

     WHEREAS, this year has been a year of many accomplishments for Magnolia Regional Health Center.  The center was recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission.  By being recognized as part of The Joint Commission's 2014 Annual Report "America's Hospitals:  Improving Quality and Safety," for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care, advanced the hospital to the ranks that only 1,224 hospitals in the country were able to achieve.  MRHC was one of only six hospitals in the State of Mississippi to qualify in four individual areas of quality.  The facility demonstrated the expertise and commitment to quality patient care by receiving Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI from The Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and the Mission Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award from implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.  For the third year in a row, the facility has included in the list of the Top 25 Most Wired Small and Rural Hospitals in the country, as named by the Hospitals and Health Networks magazine, a publication of the American Hospital Association.  In order to receive this recognition the hospitals had to meet requirements in the area of infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.  MRHC was also a recipient of one of the Most Improved distinctions, given to hospitals that had improved the most throughout the past year, and one of only four institutions recognized with the Most Wired Award in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Magnolia Regional Health Center prides itself on being an integral part of the community it serves.  Since 1965, this facility has proudly been providing care to the patients in Alcorn County, the five surrounding counties in Northeast Mississippi, and three counties in Southern Tennessee; and

     WHEREAS, celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, the facility has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the community by blending passion for very good care with the use of advanced medical technology, to deliver the best possible care; and it is with great pride that we join the citizens of Corinth and Alcorn County in honoring this efficient publicly owned health care provider:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the 50th Anniversary of Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Board of Trustees of Magnolia Regional Health Center, forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of Alcorn County and the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Corinth, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
