A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SALTILLO "TIGERS" BOYS' CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM AND COACH CHARLES COVINGTON FOR WINNING THE 2015 MHSAA 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR FIFTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on November 9, 2015, Saltillo senior cross-country winner Ken Gassaway won the 5A Boys' Title in 17:18, and sophomore Joshua Peek placed second in 17:24 to lead the Saltillo High School "Tigers" Boys' Cross-Country Team to a fifth State Championship with a 27-34 win over Oxford.  Saltillo Coach Charles Covington has now directed his boys' and girls' teams to 17 overall State Championships in cross-country.  "Ken Gassaway has been leading us for years.  We're excited about having some good young runners," said Coach Covington; and

     WHEREAS, the Saltillo Boys' Cross-Country Team won the 2015 Region I-5A Championship and the 2015 5A State Championship.  Receiving their State Champion rings are the following runners:  28th in the Division, Freshman Austin Sanders; 23rd in the Division, Eighth-Grader Kyle Patterson; 21st in the Division, Senior Andrew Weddle; 20th in the Division, Eighth-Grader Jack Cobb; 19th in the Division, Freshman Ben Bond; 18th in the Division, Junior Thomas Sanford; All-Division, All-State, 13th in the State, Sophomore Brent Gobbell; All-Division, All-State, 12th in the State, Freshman Payton Temple; All-Division, All-State, 10th in the State, Junior Ethan Caviness; All-Division, All-State, 8th in the State, Senior Christian Tenneyson; All-Division, All-State, 6th in the State, Sophomore Tanner Buse; All-Division, All-State, State Runner-Up, Sophomore Joshua Peek; and All-Division, All-State, Division Champion and State Champion, Senior Ken Gassaway; and

     WHEREAS, the 2015 Saltillo "Tigers" Boys' Cross-Country Team roster is:  David Ables, Brandon Block, Ben Bond, Heath Brazeal, Parker Burleson, Tanner Buse, Ethan Caviness, Jack Cobb, Zach Crawford, Campbell Dye, Brytan Gargus, Ken Gassaway, Will Gentry, Brent Gobbell, Luke Grissom, Eli Hannon, Blake Hawkins, Silas Herring, Drew Lesley, Kaleb Malone, Emerson Mansfield, Grayson Marable, Alex Martin, Cade McCormick, Logan Miller, Wes Newton, Spencer Olsen, Jake Patterson, Kyle Patterson, Joshua Peek, David Priest, Reed Priest, Chase Reeves, Alex Rial, Trent Rowan, Austin Sanders, Thomas Sanford, Dylan Scruggs, Brandon Tackitt, Payton Temple, Christian Tennyson, Jacob Timmons, Zach Turba, Andrew Weddle, Aj Wharton and Drew White; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who, along with the Saltillo Girls' Team, have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Saltillo "Tigers" Boys' Cross-Country Team and Coach Charles Covington for winning the 2015 MHSAA 5A State Championship, their fifth State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches and parents for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Covington for the team, Saltillo Principal Tim DeVaughn, forwarded to the Lee County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
