A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY DANCE TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 3A-5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN HIP HOP AND IN POM.

WHEREAS, the Florence High School Varsity Dance Team, the Eaglettes, competed at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Dance Championship on December 8, 2023, and were victorious and doubly crowned 3A-5A State Champions in Hip Hop and Pom; and

WHEREAS, the Florence High School Varsity Dance Team is comprised of the following outstanding young ladies: seniors, Alana Guillot, Avery Meredith (co-captain), Brelyn Muse (captain), Sarah Register and Lanie Smith; juniors, Sydney Higdon and Carley Jo Smith; sophomores, Kylie Bates, Laina Dunkley, Sawyer Register, Shelby Claire Walters and Ashlyn Watts and freshmen, Sklar Cloer, Skylar Dickerson, Kaylee Hall, Avery Martin, Taylor Raymond, Sammy Sebren and Mary Yates; and

WHEREAS, this two-time State Championship Dance Team has been superbly coached and inspired by Amy McAllister and Taylor Willoughby, who have broadened the Eaglettes' knowledge in dance and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Florence High School Varsity Dance Team has been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout their season; and

WHEREAS, the Eaglettes have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual team members and their dedicated coaches and bring great honor to Florence High School, Principal Keith Reed, and Athletic Director Brian Huskey; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Florence High School Varsity Dance Team for winning the MHSAA 3A-5A State Championships in Hip Hop and Pom and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coaches Amy McAllister and Taylor Willoughby, Principal Keith Reed, and Athletic Director Brian Husky, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
