Senate Resolution 58

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HARTFIELD ACADEMY "LADY HAWKS" VARSITY DANCE TEAM AND COACH ADDISON SMITH FOR WINNING THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AT THE 2023 MAIS SPIRIT COMPETITION.

WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty, parents and administration at Hartfield Academy in Flowood, Mississippi, in recognizing their 2023 MAIS State Championship in Spirit Competition; and

WHEREAS, Hartfield Academy's "Lady Hawks" Varsity Dance Team won the State Championship at the 2023 MAIS Spirit Competition, after much hard work and determination; and

WHEREAS, the Varsity Dance won First Place in Medium Varsity Pom (second year in a row) and First Place in Medium Varsity Kick; and

WHEREAS, the Varsity Dance Team is coached by Addison Smith.  Here is what she had to say about the special day:  "My favorite part about competition day was after each performance the girls ran off and were so excited.  I loved getting to celebrate with them because they knew they did so well and were so confident in their performances.  As a coach, that is all that I could have asked for is for them to go out and do their absolute best!!!  I also love being backstage in the warmup area with them.  Yes, there are some nerves but at that point, they are just so excited to finally get to go out there and show off their routines to everyone."  Coach Addison went on to say, "I want to recognize my three seniors for also being selected as All-Star Dancers:  Jenna Claire Davis, Addison Nash and Aniston Thompson.  I also want to thank all the students and supporters who came out to help us Go For The Gold!  Walking out onto the floor and seeing the huge crowd of gold in the stands was amazing.  It truly made me smile and gave the girls another push of excitement to perform their routines"; and

WHEREAS, the Hartfield Academy's "Lady Hawks" Varsity Dance Championship Team Roster:  Jenna Claire Davis, Aniston Thompson, Addison Nash, Riley Windham, Addison Rose, Carlysle Harkins, Becky Hand, Saige Finnie, Callie Bradshaw, Pepper Newman, Lele Barlow, Ellie Pettus, Ava Yancy, Lexi Claire Herring, Jayne Riley Edwards, Landry Lewis, Adalyn Bell, Brooklyn Shearer, Charley Farris, Lucy Warden, Mary Haddox Tucker and Leeana Sandige; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hartfield Academy "Lady Hawks" Varsity Dance Team and Coach Addison Smith for winning the State Championship Title at the 2023 MAIS Spirit Competition, and extend to the Dance Team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
