SYNOPSIS

     Requires school districts to ensure that certain student information stored on an electronic data processing system is backed up daily, and that teachers have access to the information for at least 150 days.

An Act concerning the storage of certain student information by school districts and supplementing chapter 36 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  A school district shall ensure that any electronic data processing system used for the recording and storage of information on student schedules, attendance, and grades is designed to save and backup the information on a daily basis.

     b.    A teacher shall have access to review and make revisions to the student information recorded and stored on the electronic data processing system pursuant to subsection a. of this section for a period of at least 150 days from the initial date of the recording of the information on the system.

     c.     The parent or guardian of a student shall be able to view the information on his child's schedule, attendance, and grades recorded and stored on the electronic data processing system pursuant to subsection a. of this section throughout the school year.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires school districts to ensure that any electronic data processing system used for the recording and storage of information on student schedules, attendance, and grades is designed to save and backup the information on a daily basis. Teachers will have access to review and make revisions to the information for at least 150 days from the initial date of the recording of the information on the system and a student's parent or guardian will be able to view the information on his child throughout the school year.
