SYNOPSIS

     Requires New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority to designate lanes approaching toll booths on toll roads with appropriate pavement markings.

An Act directing the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority to utilize certain pavement markings on approaches to toll booths and supplementing chapters 23 and 25A of Title 27 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, beginning 1,500 feet in advance of any toll plaza on the New Jersey Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority shall designate each lane of the paved approach to that toll plaza by painting lane numbers or other such appropriate pavement markings on the pavement to correspond to the lane numbers posted above the toll booths.

 

     2.    Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, beginning 1,500 feet in advance of any toll plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway, the South Jersey Transportation Authority shall designate each lane of the paved approach to that toll plaza by painting lane numbers or other such appropriate pavement markings on the pavement to correspond to the lane numbers posted above the toll booths.

 

     3.    The New Jersey Turnpike Authority shall promulgate regulations pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B‑1 et seq.), to effectuate the provisions of section 1 of P.L.    , c.   (C.    ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill).

 

     4.    The South Jersey Transportation Authority shall promulgate regulations pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B‑1 et seq.), to effectuate the provisions of section 2 of P.L.    , c.   (C.   ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill).

 

     5.    This act shall take effect on the 360th day next following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority to designate each lane approaching a toll plaza on the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway with lane numbers or other such appropriate pavement markings painted on the pavement to correspond to the lane numbers posted above the toll booths.  The purpose of the bill is to assist drivers with lane selection and avoid the confusion that often unfolds as drivers approach toll plazas.
