SYNOPSIS

     Provides expedited determination by State Board of Examiners on application for teaching staff member certification if certain criteria are met.

An Act concerning teaching staff member certification and supplementing chapter 26 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The State Board of Examiners, upon receipt of a request by an applicant for an expedited review of his application for teaching staff member certification, shall either issue the certificate, or deny certification and notify the applicant of the reasons for the denial, within one week of the request, provided:

     a.     the completed application has been on file with the State Board of Examiners for at least four weeks prior to the date on which the applicant's request is received by the board; and

     b.    the applicant's request is received by the board within the two week period prior to Labor Day in that school year.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides that upon a request by an individual for an expedited review of an application for teaching staff member certification, the State Board of Examiners will either issue the certificate or deny the application and provide the reasons for the denial, within one week from the date that the board receives the request, provided certain criteria are met.  Under the bill, in order to receive the expedited review, the completed application must be on file with the board for at least four weeks prior to the date when the board receives the applicant's request, and the request for the expedited review is made within the two week period prior to Labor Day in that school year.
