STATEMENT

This joint resolution honors the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts and proclaims March 12, 2012 as "Girl Scouts Day" in the State of New Jersey.  In founding Girl Scouts in 1912, Juliette Gordon Low helped American girls advance beyond the traditional roles of the 19th century by encouraging them to prepare not only for traditional homemaking roles, but also for possible future roles as professional women in the arts, sciences and business.

Girl Scouts is now the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls that affords an accepting and nurturing environment to help girls build character and skills for success in the real world. Over the past 100 years, Girl Scouting has grown to nearly 3.2 million members in the United States and 145,000 members in New Jersey. These members continue the Girl Scout's mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
