SYNOPSIS

     Permits removal of State board, commission or independent authority member for failure to attend three consecutive meetings thereof without good cause.

An Act concerning the membership of certain boards, commissions, and independent authorities and supplementing Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, whenever an appointed member of a State board, commission, or independent authority fails to attend three consecutive meetings thereof without good cause that member may be removed from office by a two thirds-vote of the authorized membership of the board, commission or independent authority, excluding any vacancies.  The removal of the member shall be effective upon the vote of the board, commission or authority and the vacancy shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointment was made, but only for the remainder of the term to be filled.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides that whenever an appointed member of a State board, commission, or independent authority fails to attend three consecutive meetings thereof without good cause that member may be removed from office by a two thirds-vote of the authorized membership of the board, commission or independent authority, excluding any vacancies.  The removal of the member would be effective upon the vote of the board, commission or authority and the vacancy shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointment was made, but only for the remainder of the term to be filled.
