SYNOPSIS

     Requires Attorney General to issue guidelines regarding public notification of suspicious activity.

An Act concerning law enforcement and supplementing Title 2C of the New Jersey Statutes. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Attorney General shall develop and disseminate guidelines to county and municipal law enforcement agencies to ensure the uniform exercise of discretion in making determinations to notify the general public of suspicious activity, including, but not limited to, reports of an adult suspect attempting to commit predatory acts against children. 

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the seventh month next following enactment, but the Attorney General may take administrative action in advance thereof as shall be necessary for the implementation of this act. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Attorney General to develop and disseminate guidelines to county and municipal law enforcement agencies to ensure the uniform exercise of discretion in making determinations to notify the general public of suspicious activity.  Under the bill, suspicious activity would include reports of an adult suspect attempting to commit predatory acts against children.
