SYNOPSIS

     Increases Hearing Aid Assistance for the Aged and Disabled Program annual allowance to $500.

An Act concerning hearing aid assistance and amending P.L.1987, c.298.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Section 2 of P.L.1987, c.298 (C.30:4D-37) is amended to read as follows:

     2.    A person eligible for the Hearing Aid Assistance for the Aged and Disabled Program is entitled to receive a payment of up to [$100.00] $500 in a calendar year in which a hearing aid is purchased to offset the cost of the hearing aid. For the purposes of this act, "hearing aid" means an ear-level or body-worn electroacoustic instrument for amplifying sound whose basic components are a microphone, amplifier and receiver.

     2.    This act shall take effect January 1, 2017.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill amends the statute that established the Hearing Aid Assistance for the Aged and Disabled Program, to increase the maximum amount the program will provide for hearing aid assistance from $100 to $500 per year.

     A person who meets the age or disability, income and residency requirements of the "Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled" program is eligible for hearing aid assistance if the person is not otherwise qualified for Medicaid assistance.
