Permits issuance of temporary work permit for teaching to applicants for admission to cosmetology and hairstyling teacher examination.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

An Act concerning cosmetology and hairstyling and amending P.L.1984, c.205 and P.L.1995, c.82.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    Section 26 of P.L.1984, c.205 (C.45:5B-26) is amended to read as follows:

     26.  Upon submitting satisfactory evidence of eligibility for any practicing or teaching license, an applicant shall submit to the board a fee as required by the board.  The applicant then shall be scheduled to sit for the examination conducted by the board for a person seeking to teach cosmetology and hairstyling or in the practice in which he is seeking a practicing license.  Upon scheduling, he shall be issued a temporary permit to engage in teaching or the practice for which the applicant is seeking a license. The permit shall remain valid for a period of no more than 120 days and shall expire upon receipt of a newly issued license by the licensee.  Only one temporary permit shall be issued to an applicant.  [No temporary permit shall be issued to applicants awaiting scheduling of and results from the teacher examination.]

(cf:  P.L.1984, c.205, s.26)

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

The provisions of section 26 of P.L.1984, c.205 (C.45:5B-26) prohibit the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling from issuing a temporary permit to engage in teaching to applicants awaiting scheduling of and results from the teacher examination.  This bill removes that prohibition, thereby allowing the board to issue a 120-day temporary permit  to engage in teaching to a cosmetology and hairstyling teacher examination applicant, who is a candidate for licensure as a teacher of cosmetology and hairstyling.
