A Joint Resolution designating September 11 of each year as "American Heroes Day."

Whereas, 1[Police] Law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services  personnel throughout the State are called upon to serve and protect their fellow citizens by responding to horrendous events and acting heroically to save the lives of others in spite of the clear danger to their own lives; and

Whereas, 1[Police] Law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services  personnel are routinely subjected to dangerous situations, called upon to work overtime without proper sleep and spend time away from their families and loved ones; and

Whereas, Since the terrorist attacks on this nation on September 11, 2001, 1[police] law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services personnel throughout the State have been called upon to make even greater sacrifices to ensure the safety and security of Americans; and

Whereas, The events of September 11, 2001 have brought to the forefront the courageous deeds performed by 1[police] law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services personnel every day and have caused the citizens of the State of New Jersey to take closer notice of these acts; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper that the State recognize September 11 of each year as "American Heroes Day," to salute the contributions of 1[police] law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services personnel to the security and well-being of this State; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    September 11 of each year shall be designated "American Heroes Day," to salute the contributions of 1[police] law enforcement1 officers, firefighters and emergency 1medical1 services personnel to the security and well-being of this State.

     2.    The Governor shall annually issue a proclamation establishing September 11 of each year as "American Heroes Day" and, with the Legislature, call upon all citizens of the State to celebrate this day with appropriate activities and programs.

     3.    This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
